What Goes on During a SMART Recovery Meeting?

What SMART Recovery Meetings Like?

SMART Recovery® groups are small and intimate allowing people to interact with one another.  They are open for various discussions and material related to the Smart Recovery programme. The primary focus during these meetings is to assist people on how to maintain focus and motivation to quit alcoholism, drug addiction and other compulsive behaviours. These meetings also help people to learn how to handle urges without acting on them.  They also help people develop skills and new ways of coping with conflict and problems while creating a healthy, positive lifestyle.

The meetings are 90 minutes long which gives every participant time to speak as well as focus on those that may need additional help and guidance from their peers. A SMART meeting has usually no more than 10 participants, which fosters individualised attention and care as well as establishing a bond with other members of the group.
